June 10 & 11 at Charter Oak Cultural Center, 21 Charter Oak Ave, Hartford
Tickets on sale now
May 9, 2016 - 5 Arts Connecticut proudly announces the first round of art and artists selected to appear in this year’s showcase/fundraising event to be held on June 10th and 11th at Charter Oak Cultural Center. After months of sorting through submissions from local playwrights, musicians, filmmakers, painters, and poets, eight artists have already been selected. Seeking to present the best in homegrown talent, the lineup includes the one-act plays SKIP/TRIP/SASSY by Wilton playwright Brian Feehan and IT’S A TRAGEDY by Stratford playwright Steven Otfinoski; paintings by Syd Hertz, a longtime Stamford resident who unfortunately passed away in February of this year, and Paul Gobell of New Britain; and Middletown’s Poet Laureate Susan Allison.

Music acts include Hartford’s own The Professors of Sweet, Sweet, Music; HannaH’s Field of Collinsville; and Ashley Hamel of Middletown. An original choral piece composed specifically for the event by Danbury native Leigh Tooker will be performed by area singers led by Hartford resident Lea Peterson.

In addition, 5 Arts unveils its new logo, a collaborative effort between Canton teen Edgar Schafer, winner of the 5 Arts Youth Logo Design Competition, and professional graphic designer Laurel Hoskins of West Hartford.

Featured films will be decided once the May 15th deadline passes. Info and submission forms are available at 5 Arts Connecticut.

5 Arts 2016 will be held on June 10th and 11th at the Charter Oak Cultural Center. Tickets cost $15 and are on sale through Eventbrite. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s Neighborhood Studios program. Visit 5 Arts Connecticut for more information.

In its mission to raise awareness of the tremendous talent our small state has to offer while also raising awareness and funds for the important Neighborhood Studios program, 5 Arts Connecticut provides a unique opportunity for performers from around Connecticut to work together while celebrating that most noble of human endeavors, the creation of art and beauty.

All proceeds will benefit the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s Neighborhood Studios program, which provides area teens with hands-on education in the arts, as well as
career-skills training to prepare them for today’s creative workforce. The event is once again being produced by Kelly DiMauro, the Middletown actor/director/producer who first conceived and mounted 5 Arts in 2010, and his co-producer Cie Peterson, a Hartford-based director, writer, voiceover artist, and acting coach with deep ties to such esteemed performing arts institutions as Hartford Stage and The Bushnell Center for Performing Arts.

Kelly DiMauro - Founder/Co-Producer 5 Arts Connecticut
Kelly is a Middletown resident who founded the Middle City Stage Company, under which the first two 5 Arts programs were produced. He has produced and directed two
films: Only In Fiction and Protector of the Kingdom, which was selected for viewing in the 2013 New England Underground Film Festival, and has produced and/or directed several productions including Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love at New Britain Rep, Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July and Ingmar Bergman’s Through A Glass Darkly at Hole In The Wall in New Britain, and Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues at MAC650 in Middletown.
Cie Peterson - Co-Producer/Director 5 Arts Connecticut
Native New Yorker and Hartford resident Cie Peterson began her actor training as a teenager at the renowned Gene Frankel Theatre on Broadway. While she has an
extensive resume of theatrical credits, currently she works primarily as a voiceover artist, who can be heard in numerous TV and radio spots, online training videos, and the occasional audio book.
